We
usually talk about
the 5 basic senses of sight, hearing, taste, touch and smell. However,
there are two “hidden
senses” which help children with motor
development and learning. These are:
PROPRIOCEPTION
- the muscle and joint sense, and
THE
VESTIBULAR SENSE - the sense of balance.
These two senses work closely together to give the child a sense of
body position and movement in space, balance, posture, co-ordination,
confidence and pleasure. At Moms and Babes we also
concentrate on
developing these 2 "hidden" senses. These hidden senses work with all
the other senses to help your baby process information and make sense
of this world.
